Amerigo Vespucci sailing along the Sicilian coast

The Amerigo Vespucci, the historic training ship of the Italian Navy, has been sighted sailing along the Sicilian coast, passing near Marina di Ragusa and Avola. The vessel is currently transiting toward Porto Empedocle, where it is scheduled to dock on October 28 and 29 for public visits.

Launched in 1931, the Amerigo Vespucci is the oldest unit in service within the Italian Navy and serves a vital role in training naval academy cadets. The ship is currently making its way through the Mediterranean following a summer campaign in North America and participation in the Barcolana regatta in Trieste. Its journey will continue from Porto Empedocle toward Northern Europe.
