Amgen and AstraZeneca drug combo reduces lung cancer death risk by 58%

Results from the Phase 3 DeLLphi-305 clinical trial show that combining Amgen’s Imdelltra (tarlatamab) with AstraZeneca’s Imfinzi (durvalumab) significantly improves outcomes for patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC).

The combination therapy reduced the risk of death by 58% compared to Imfinzi alone. Median overall survival for the combination group reached 21.1 months, whereas the group receiving only Imfinzi had a median survival of 12.7 months. Additionally, the one-year survival rate for the combination group was approximately 79% to 80%, compared to 53% for the control group.

Data presented at the ESMO 2026 Congress in Madrid and published in the New England Journal of Medicine indicated that severe (Grade 3 and 4) treatment-related adverse events occurred in 20.9% of the combination group. Approximately 49.6% of patients receiving Imdelltra reported cytokine release syndrome, though researchers noted these effects are manageable and only one case was reported as serious.
