Amgen launches first India Scholars Program at IIIT Hyderabad

Amgen announced the launch of the first Amgen Scholars Program in India, based at the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT Hyderabad). The two‑year commitment runs through the summer of 2027 and supports a ten‑member inaugural cohort of undergraduate scholars from India, Vietnam, Qatar and Dubai.

The scholars will undertake a two‑month residential research experience focused on artificial‑intelligence and machine‑learning applications in fundamental sciences, drug design, healthcare, cheminformatics and genomics, working alongside faculty mentors at IIIT Hyderabad. The programme includes seminars, networking events and a regional Amgen Scholars Symposium scheduled for Tokyo in August 2026.

Naveen Gullapalli, Managing Director of Amgen India, said the initiative aims to inspire talented students and strengthen India’s scientific ecosystem. Deva Priyakumar, Professor and Dean (R&D) at IIIT Hyderabad, expressed enthusiasm for hosting the programme and its alignment with the institute’s research‑led education approach.
