Amgen to establish Latin American clinical research hub in Buenos Aires

Biotechnology company Amgen has selected Buenos Aires, Argentina, as the headquarters for its new regional clinical research, innovation, and development hub for Latin America. This facility will be one of only eight such hubs operated by the company globally.

The center will coordinate Amgen’s activities across Argentina, Mexico, and Colombia. According to Argentine Health Minister Mario Lugones, the decision reflects the country’s technical capacity for conducting clinical trials and recruiting patients at scale. Argentina currently ranks fifth globally in patient contribution to Amgen’s clinical studies, representing 4.9% of the global total and surpassing participation levels from countries such as China.

The initiative aims to attract investment, generate high-skilled scientific employment, and reduce costs within the healthcare system. Government officials noted that the move is supported by efforts to streamline regulatory timelines and foster a more favorable environment for international research projects.
