Amgen's Repatha reduces death risk in high-risk patients

Amgen has announced findings from a pre-specified secondary analysis of the Phase 3 VESALIUS-CV trial, indicating that its cholesterol drug, Repatha (evolocumab), reduced the risk of death in high-risk adults who had not yet experienced a heart attack or stroke.

In a study involving more than 12,000 high-risk patients, the addition of Repatha to statins or other low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)-lowering treatments resulted in a 20% reduction in the risk of death from all causes, including cardiovascular events. The reduction in mortality began to appear after approximately 1.5 years of treatment and was maintained through a median follow-up of 4.6 years.

These results were presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2026 in Munich and published in the journal Circulation. The findings suggest that Repatha may help extend life by preventing major cardiovascular events and the subsequent health declines associated with heart disease.
