Amhrán na Laoch songwriting competition announced for 2026
Hot Press and the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI) have announced the 2026 Amhrán na Laoch songwriting competition. Held as part of Irish Music Month, the competition focuses on songwriting in the Irish language and is supported by An Post and Coimisiún na Meán under its Sound & Vision scheme.
The winning song from the competition will be released as a recording by Gael Linn. The initiative has received support from the President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly, who highlighted the importance of broadcasters supporting local artists and fostering creativity through the Irish language.
Previous winner Huartan, from Belfast, notably went on to receive the Live Act of the Year Award at the NI Music Prize and the BBC Introducing Northern Irish Artist of the Year Award in late 2025.
