Amie Penny transitions from investment banking to cattle farming
Amie Penny, a former investment banker from the Sydney suburbs, successfully transitioned into large-scale livestock farming despite having no prior experience or land. After a two-week visit to a family farm near Cowre, Australia, she decided to leave her corporate career to pursue agriculture.
Alongside her partner Jason, Penny faced significant early hardships, including living in a horse trailer on someone else's property for nearly a year due to limited funds. Starting with only 16 Brahman cattle, she utilized the internet and advice from neighbors to learn the necessary skills.
Her operation has since expanded into a substantial business, managing approximately 1,200 head of Angus cattle across various properties in New South Wales. While the transition involved intense physical labor, financial uncertainty, and irregular working hours, Penny has maintained her commitment to the industry, citing a greater sense of purpose in her work.
