Amilcingo students protest in Morelos over school leadership

Students from the General Emiliano Zapata Rural Normal School in Amilcingo have intensified protests in Morelos, Mexico, following the cancellation of a scheduled meeting with Governor Margarita González Saravia.

The demonstrations, which included blocking the Siglo XXI highway and vandalizing the Government Palace in Cuernavaca, were triggered by the Institute of Basic Education of the State of Morelos (IEBEM) appointing a new school director without student participation. The students claim this violates previous agreements that granted them a voice in the selection process.

Key demands from the student body include: • Participation in the designation of the school's new leadership. • Improved infrastructure, specifically regarding sports facilities and dormitories. • Increased budget for food rations and technological equipment. • The removal of certain teaching and administrative staff accused of misconduct and irregularities.
