Aminata Touré criticizes verbal conduct in Senegal's National Assembly

Aminata Touré, the general supervisor of the KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains party, has criticized the recent verbal conduct within Senegal’s National Assembly. Speaking at the opening of the party’s first winter university, Touré described certain remarks made in the assembly as “unacceptable” and “unworthy of an institution.”

Touré urged deputies to exercise greater responsibility, noting that the National Assembly serves as the representation of the people. She warned that the 15th legislature risks being remembered as the “most unworthy” if current trends of excessive rhetoric continue.

Furthermore, she condemned the use of parliamentary immunity to launch attacks against the President, labeling such behavior as “the greatest cowardice.” She challenged those deputies to make similar statements in a press conference without the protection of their parliamentary status. Touré also emphasized that the Assembly must not pass laws contrary to the Constitution and must defend judicial independence and freedom of the press.
