Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital launches IVF services
Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has officially launched In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) services, marking a significant advancement in reproductive healthcare for the region. The hospital's assisted reproductive health technology team has already commenced procedures, successfully performing the first egg collections from two women and obtaining semen samples from their husbands.
Dr. Ibrahim Rais, Chief Consultant Gynaecologist and IVF Specialist at AKTH, stated that the service aims to provide accessible assisted reproductive options to the growing population of couples facing infertility. Beyond clinical treatment, the hospital intends to establish itself as a center of excellence for training in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Reproductive medicine.
Chief Medical Director Prof. Abdulrahman Sheshe and his team were credited with the development. The hospital plans to continue the initial rollout with several more patients in the coming days to finalize the first phase of service provision.
