Amir Daniel Secures Malaysia's First Commonwealth Judo Gold, Penang Grants Incentive

Amir Daniel Abdul Majeed became the first Malaysian judoka to win a gold medal, triumphing in the men's under‑81 kg category at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. The victory marks a historic first for Malaysia in judo at the Games.

The Penang state government announced that Daniel will receive a reward under the State Sports Victory Incentive Scheme (SKIMAS), with the exact amount to be disclosed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. The 22‑year‑old University of Science Malaysia student said he will resume training immediately, aiming for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan and ultimately the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. His coach, Md Nashriq Md Nasir, praised Daniel’s discipline and said the gold will inspire other athletes.
