Amish Shah faces scrutiny over legislative record in Arizona

Democratic congressional nominee Amish Shah is facing scrutiny regarding his legislative record in Arizona. While Shah has claimed to “work to Back the Blue,” critics point to his past votes against ending qualified immunity and against legislation that would have protected officers from false complaints. Despite these records, Shah received endorsements from the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Arizona and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Law Enforcement Association.

Additionally, Shah’s record on the opioid crisis has come under fire. During his tenure in the Arizona House, he voted against the Ashley Dunn Act, a bill designed to increase prison sentences for fentanyl dealers. The legislation imposes enhanced penalties for those selling significant quantities of the drug, following the death of Ashley Dunn from a fentanyl overdose in 2021.
