Amit Shah assures Manipur CM of central support for peace

Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh in New Delhi to discuss restoring peace and progress in the state. During the meeting, Shah assured the Chief Minister of the Central government’s full support in addressing the state’s challenges and fulfilling the aspirations of its people. Shah also agreed to visit Manipur later this month.

Chief Minister Singh briefed the Home Minister on state government measures to restore normalcy, highlighting the successful resumption of the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati bus service. This inter-state service, which connects Manipur with Nagaland and Assam, had been disrupted for over three years following the outbreak of ethnic violence in May 2023.

In a separate address at Kangla Fort, Chief Minister Singh called upon Manipur’s 36 communities, including the Meitei, Kuki-Zo, and Naga, to unite for the state’s integrity. He noted the severe economic impact of the ethnic hostilities, stating that the state lost over Rs 1,200 crore in GST revenue between 2023 and 2026, with daily losses of Rs 20 to Rs 25 crore due to blockades and bandhs.
