Amit Shah promotes new tech-driven criminal laws in West Bengal

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has described India’s three new criminal laws—the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)—as transparent, technology-oriented, and victim-centric. Speaking at an exhibition in Kolkata, Shah stated that these laws aim to strengthen the protection of citizens and property while accelerating the criminal justice process compared to the previous colonial-era system.

Shah highlighted several tech-driven provisions, including Zero FIR, E-FIR, electronic evidence, forensic evidence, and online court proceedings. He also criticized the previous Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, alleging they deliberately delayed the implementation of these laws to protect existing structures of corruption. Shah noted that the new Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, has moved to implement these codes to replace British-era laws.
