Amit Shah chairs Western Zonal Council meeting in Goa

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the 28th Western Zonal Council meeting in Goa, focusing on cooperative federalism and national security. During the proceedings, Shah announced that the Ministry of Home Affairs will prioritize strengthening coastal security over the next two years.

Addressing narcotics control, Shah unveiled a national roadmap for 2026–2029 aimed at eradicating drug trafficking. He compared the goal of eliminating the drug menace to the successful reduction of Naxalism. He also noted that 274 fugitives have been extradited to India from 36 countries since 2019.

In Goa, Shah presented the President’s Police Colour to the Goa Police and launched an AI-based voice assistant for the 1930 cybercrime helpline. The new system supports 12 languages to assist citizens and tourists with cyber fraud reporting. Additionally, Shah highlighted India’s economic resilience, noting a 7.8 per cent GDP growth in the first quarter of the current fiscal year despite global geopolitical instability.
