Amitabh Bachchan discusses forgotten lines and early filmmaking challenges

Actor Amitabh Bachchan revealed that some of the distinctive pauses in his performances were actually moments where he had forgotten his lines and was attempting to recall them. He shared these insights during an episode of the television show Kaun Banega Crorepati 18 while interacting with comedians Varun Grover, Gaurav Gupta, and Gaurav Kapoor.

Bachchan discussed the technical constraints of early filmmaking, noting that film stock was an extremely expensive resource. Because of these costs, actors faced significant pressure to deliver successful performances in minimal takes to avoid wasting material. He explained that he would sometimes incorporate unplanned pauses into his acting to prevent mistakes from derailing a shot and to ensure the director would approve the take.
