Amitabh Bachchan recalls Kolkata’s Park Street nightlife and Usha Uthup

During an episode of the quiz reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati, actor Amitabh Bachchan reminisced about his time in Kolkata during the 1960s, specifically highlighting the vibrant nightlife of Park Street.

Bachchan praised the area for its concentration of high-quality restaurants, noting that it is rare to find so many outstanding establishments within such a short distance on a single road. He also recalled the legendary musicians who performed at these venues, including Usha Uthup and Louis Banks.

Usha Uthup has a deep historical connection to the area, having launched her professional singing career at a Park Street restaurant in 1969. She became a prominent figure in the city's live-music culture, often performing in traditional sarees despite the dominance of Western music in nightclubs at the time.
