Amkor Technology Korea reaffirms Gwangju plant investment
Amkor Technology Korea has issued an official letter of gratitude to the Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City and Jangseong County for resolving semiconductor wastewater treatment issues. This resolution follows a rapid administrative response where local authorities established a cooperation framework to secure additional wastewater treatment capacity within just two days, a process that typically takes months or even a year.
In the letter signed by CEO Lee Jin-an, the company reaffirmed its commitment to responsibly pursuing large-scale expansion investments at its Gwangju plant. Amkor noted that the support from local government has provided a critical foundation for strengthening the semiconductor industry's competitiveness and creating a sustainable industrial ecosystem in the region.
This development follows a 1 trillion won investment announcement made in June, with the company also considering additional large-scale investments. Local leadership, including Mayor Min Hyung-bae, has pledged to continue supporting follow-up procedures, including permits and operational plans, to ensure the investment proceeds without disruption.
