Amílcar Córdoba elected president of Panama's CSS board
The Board of Directors of Panama's Social Security Fund (Caja de Seguro Social) held an extraordinary session on October 1 to elect new leadership. Amílcar Córdoba, representing the employer sector, was appointed as the new president of the institution's governing body.
Eusebia Calderón de Copete, representing the health professionals and technicians sector, was elected vice president. Calderón de Copete, who served as president during the previous term, noted that the new leadership aims to provide continuity to the established work plan and improvement strategies designed to address the institution's most pressing issues.
Upon assuming his role, Córdoba emphasized the legal obligation to ensure the institution possesses sufficient resources to meet all obligations regarding retirement, illness, and accidents. He also highlighted the need for increased employability to expand the number of contributors to the system, stating that increasing the contributor base is a primary concern for both the Board and the General Directorate.
