Amélie to receive 25th-anniversary theatrical re-release in Japan
The romantic comedy film ‘Amélie’, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and starring Audrey Tautou, will receive a special 25th-anniversary theatrical re-release in Japan starting November 13, 2026.
Originally released in Japan in November 2001, the film became a massive social phenomenon, expanding from a single theater in Shibuya to 160 locations across 47 prefectures. To mark the anniversary, two new poster visuals have been unveiled: one featuring a green color scheme highlighting the protagonist's smile, and another with a red theme showing her relaxing on a bed.
The screenings will take place at various venues, including Human Trust Cinema Yurakucho and Shinjuku Musashinokan. The film, set in Montmartre, Paris, follows the story of a whimsical waitress who attempts to bring happiness to those around her through small, imaginative acts.
