Czech Government Council for Human Rights faces backlash over new appointments

The appointment of three new members to the Czech Government Council for Human Rights has sparked significant controversy and criticism from various human rights organizations. The new appointees include lawyer Jakub Kříž, activist Daniel Black, and former Miss World Taťána Kuchařová.

Critics, including Amnesty International and several local NGOs, have called on Prime Minister Andrej Babiš to revoke the appointments. They argue that the new members hold views that conflict with the protection of women's and minority rights. Specifically, Kříž is noted for his ties to pro-life groups, Black for his views on gender transition, and Kuchařová for her public profile.

Former Ombudsman Stanislav Křeček has defended the government's decision, stating that the Prime Minister should not yield to pressure from activists. Křeček argued that the protesters are merely reacting to the inclusion of individuals who hold different ideological perspectives than those they advocate for, suggesting that a healthy democracy requires representing a broader spectrum of views.
