Amnesty International urges action following South Africa’s ICJ submission

Amnesty International has called on the international community to pressure Israel following a submission by South Africa to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). South Africa’s submission provides evidence alleging that Israel has failed to comply with the court’s legally binding provisional orders regarding allegations of genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip.

Amnesty International stated that Israeli authorities have continued to cause irreparable damage to Palestinian rights protected under the Genocide Convention, despite the court’s orders issued in early 2024. The organization criticized other states for failing to enforce these measures, with some allegedly providing diplomatic, financial, or material support that enables Israel’s actions.
