AMNI and TotalEnergies approve $800 million Nigeria gas project

AMNI International Petroleum Development Co. and TotalEnergies have reached a final investment decision to develop the Ima offshore gas field in Nigeria. The project, valued at approximately $800 million, involves the development of a single offshore platform located in shallow waters near Bonny Island, Rivers State. The field will be connected to the Nigeria LNG facility via a 22-kilometer pipeline.

Discovered in 1973, the Ima field has remained undeveloped for over five decades. The decision to proceed is attributed to new fiscal incentives in Nigeria designed to encourage the development of non-associated gas projects. The project is expected to begin production in 2028, with a projected gas output plateauing at approximately 350 million cubic feet per day.

AMNI will hold a 60% stake in the project, while TotalEnergies will operate with a 40% interest. The gas produced is expected to supply roughly one-third of the feed gas required for the Train 7 expansion of the Nigeria LNG plant, which aims to increase liquefaction capacity from 22 million to 30 million tonnes per year.
