AM/NS India secures first BIS licences for new steel standards

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has become the first steelmaker in India to secure Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) licences under two new significant standards.

The company obtained the first All India BIS Licence for IS 2062 (Part 2):2026, which covers Hot Rolled Quenched & Tempered (Q&T) steel plates, sheets, strips, and wide flats. Additionally, it secured a licence under IS 19210:2025 for Pre-Painted Zinc-Aluminium-Magnesium (Zn-Al-Mg) alloy coated steel strip and sheet.

These certifications allow AM/NS India to supply state-funded infrastructure, defence, and public sector projects that require mandatory BIS compliance. The company noted that the new licences facilitate import substitution by providing a local source for Q&T steel plates, which previously relied on imported materials. The certified products are manufactured at the company’s facilities in Hazira and Pune.
