Amon Amarth unveils new single and Western-themed video

Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth has released “Eight Legs of Thunder,” the final preview single from their upcoming tenth-track album, “The Allfather Awakens.” Scheduled for release on October 2 via Metal Blade Records, the new album features a different creative approach, with the band developing songs while on tour and recording in two separate sessions at producer Jacob Hansen’s studio in Denmark.

The new single is inspired by Sleipnir, the eight-legged steed of the Norse god Oden. Its accompanying music video, directed by Dariusz Szermanowicz, departs from traditional medieval metal aesthetics by blending Norse mythology with a modern American Western setting, featuring cowboys, pickup trucks, and open highways.

Musically, the band has noted a shift toward a more classic guitar sound, returning to Marshall amplifiers rather than the 5150 models used in recent productions. While Oden serves as a thematic thread throughout the album, the record is not a concept album but rather a collection of epic tales inspired by history and mythology.
