Amon Carter Museum opens Statue of Liberty art exhibition
The Amon Carter Museum of American Art has opened a new exhibition titled ‘The Statue of Liberty from Bartholdi to Warhol’. Co-organized with the Denver Art Museum, the show examines the evolution of the Statue of Liberty’s image in American visual culture from the 1870s to the present.
The exhibition features nearly 100 artworks and objects from more than 70 artists, including Norman Rockwell, Andy Warhol, Pacita Abad, and Benny Andrews. It explores how the monument has been interpreted through various lenses, including as an engineering marvel, a symbol of patriotism, and a beacon for immigration.
A central piece of the exhibition is a rare bronze reduction of Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi’s ‘Liberty Enlightening the World’, one of only five domestic-scale casts made during the artist’s lifetime. The exhibition is scheduled to remain on view in Fort Worth through January 3, 2027, before traveling to Denver from March 14 through July 4, 2027.
