Amorepacific discovers new peptide for healthy hair formation

Amorepacific has identified a biological mechanism and a new peptide that aids in healthy hair formation. The research findings, which detail how the microenvironment of the hair follicle affects the strength and quality of new hair, were published in the September issue of the international journal Experimental Dermatology.

By analyzing newborn hair from healthy adults, researchers found that the expression of the COCH (Coagulation Factor C Homology) gene within the hair follicle is closely linked to disulfide bonds, which are essential for hair strength and elasticity. The study noted that individuals aged 50 and older showed a more than 21% decrease in disulfide bond content and a more than 40% reduction in hair tensile strength compared to those in their 20s to 40s.

In collaboration with the global peptide specialist Croda, Amorepacific developed ‘GROW PEPTIDE™’, a next-generation hair care ingredient designed to influence key factors in hair formation. This technology has already been applied to the ‘Rootgen’ line of the Ryo brand. The company aims to further develop its ‘Hair Longevity Solution’ based on these scientific advancements.
