Amorgos focuses on authentic traditions to drive tourism

Amorgos is strengthening its tourism identity by focusing on authentic local experiences, specifically through traditional festivals known as ‘panigiria’, gastronomy, and its unique Cycladic landscape. These celebrations, which involve locals and visitors sharing traditional foods like ‘patatato’ and specially made bread, have become a significant trend fueled by digital sharing.

Popi Despotidi, the Deputy Mayor of Tourism and Social Welfare for Amorgos, notes that the island has built a loyal following of repeat visitors who bring new travelers with them. She attributes this success to the island’s authenticity and the hospitality of its people and family-run businesses, which foster deep connections between visitors and the local community.
