Amparo Luna Costales discusses chemistry as a bridge between scientific disciplines
During a virtual conference titled “Architects of Matter, How Chemistry Shapes Life, Health, and the Environment?”, researcher Amparo Luna Costales discussed the interdisciplinary nature of chemistry. Luna Costales, an academic from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, emphasized that chemistry serves as a bridge between various scientific disciplines and daily life.
Using the development of algae-based biofertilizers as an example, she illustrated how multiple fields must collaborate. Marine sciences identify raw materials, chemists extract active compounds and formulate products, biologists evaluate agronomic impacts on crops, and veterinarians assess safety for animals. Additionally, mathematics and physics are required to create models that optimize processes and determine viability. The lecture was part of a collaboration between the Universidad de Colima and Red Global MX.
