AMPERA submits regulatory engagement plan to U.S. NRC
Advanced nuclear company AMPERA has submitted a comprehensive Regulatory Engagement Plan to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). This submission is part of the pre-application phase of the licensing process.
AMPERA intends to submit its combined manufacturing and fuel fabrication facility license application by October 2027. The plan is designed to align with the NRC’s Office of Advanced Reactors (OAR) to facilitate the safe deployment of advanced reactor technologies.
The scope of the plan includes reactor licensing under 10 CFR Parts 40, 53, 70, and 71. This covers nuclear material activities, fuel fabrication, reactor core manufacturing, and module deployment across multiple sites. The company is developing a commercial subcritical, thorium-fueled, modular system that utilizes an external neutron generator to sustain operation.
