AMPI calls for cadastral and registry modernization in Mexico

The Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI) is advocating for the modernization of cadastral and registry systems in Mexico. The association emphasizes that these updates should be guided by legal certainty, administrative efficiency, and transparency to support real estate development and investment.

AMPI President Jenny Althair Rivas Padilla highlighted the need for reliable information systems and clear rules to protect property rights and family assets. Key proposals include the harmonization of information between public registries and cadastral offices, the implementation of unique property identifiers, and the use of new technological tools to reduce inconsistencies in transactions such as sales, successions, and financing.

Regarding the proposed General Law for the Strengthening and Harmonization of Cadastral and Registry Systems, AMPI stressed that updates to cadastral values must be based on technical criteria and transparent evaluations. The association warned that such updates should consider the economic capacity of households to ensure that property value increases do not place disproportionate pressure on family finances through property tax hikes.
