Amplitude Studios announces HUMANKIND 2 for 2027

Amplitude Studios has announced HUMANKIND 2, a historical 4X strategy sequel scheduled for a PC release in 2027. Revealed during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, the game aims to expand upon the mechanics of its 2021 predecessor by introducing deeper cultural progression systems, enhanced graphics, and a modernized user interface.

Key gameplay features include the ability to adopt new cultures in each era to build unique civilizations, as well as a dynamic climate system where changing biomes impact city management and resource availability. Players can choose to follow historical paths or create alternative timelines featuring cultures such as the Saqqaq, Etruscans, and Scythians.

The announcement has also been marked by controversy regarding the game's live-action reveal trailer. Following online accusations that the footage was “AI slop,” Amplitude Studios clarified that the trailer was produced using real actors, practical sets, and custom-made props at Nu Boyana Film Studios in Sofia, rather than generative AI.
