Amplitude Studios reveals gameplay for Humankind 2

Amplitude Studios has provided an exclusive first look at Humankind 2, the sequel to its historical turn-based strategy title. Currently slated for a vague 2027 release, the game aims to offer increased player freedom and deeper customization based on five years of community feedback and the studio's experience with titles like Endless Space 2.

Key features include over 70 playable cultures, an increase from the original game, each featuring unique progression trees, traits, and abilities. Players can choose to maintain a single cultural identity throughout a session or evolve it over time. The game introduces a 'Historical Mode' designed to let players relive or rewrite history on an authentic map of Earth, supported by research from over 30 historians.

Environmental adaptation is a central mechanic, where climate influences culture and gameplay. For example, players might lead an Egyptian civilization in a snowy northern environment, requiring strategic shifts to thrive. The game also introduces a 'First Tale'—a foundational myth that marks the beginning of each civilization's journey.
