Amplitude Studios releases making-of video for Humankind 2 trailer

Amplitude Studios has released behind-the-scenes footage for the Humankind 2 announcement trailer to address public speculation that the video was created using generative AI. Following the trailer's debut at Gamescom 2026, some viewers labeled the footage as ‘AI slop’ due to its stylized visual effects and rapid camera movements.

The developer clarified that the production utilized a combination of live-action filming, practical sets, custom props, and traditional CGI. Filming took place at Nu Boyana Film Studios in Sofia, Bulgaria, involving 25 actors, over 100 extras, and a crew of approximately 150 people. The creative agency BETC collaborated with the CGI studio LiveFX to integrate elements such as tornadoes, nuclear explosions, and space sequences into the live-action footage.

The trailer depicts human history through the perspective of a newborn child across nine different eras, ranging from the Neolithic period to a future space setting. Humankind 2 is scheduled for release on PC in 2027.
