Amran Sulaiman imposes moratorium on new fortified rice distribution permits

The Indonesian National Food Agency (Bapanas) and Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman have implemented a moratorium on the issuance of new distribution permits for fortified rice products. This decision follows investigations into producers allegedly misrepresenting nutritional content and quality on product labels.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Indonesian National Police (Polri), are currently investigating several producers for suspected fraud. Two producers managing nine brands have been moved to the investigation stage. Specifically, PT DTA is accused of violating regulations across five brands (WJK, IMF, IHJ, CMS, and DTR) regarding vitamin levels, nutritional labeling, and quality classifications. Additionally, PT UDS in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, is under investigation for its four brands: PBK, GNB, GNM, and IMC.

Amran Sulaiman stated that the moratorium aims to prevent consumer deception and noted that the crackdown on food mafias is a direct mandate from President Prabowo Subianto.
