América FC begins Serie D knockout against Fluminense-PI in Teresina

América Futebol Clube started the second‑phase knockout of Brazil's Serie D on Saturday, June 20, 2026, hosting Fluminense-PI at the Lindolfo Monteiro stadium in Teresina at 16:00. The match is the first leg of a two‑game tie that decides which side advances toward the round of 16 and a chance at promotion to Serie C.

América entered the stage after finishing second in Group A8 of the first phase, recording only one defeat in 14 matches. Coach Ranielle Ribeiro highlighted the need for greater offensive efficiency, noting the team had generated many chances but converted few. Veteran midfielder Coppetti returned to the starting lineup after a brief rest, adding experience to a defense rated among the strongest in the division. Fluminense-PI qualified from Group A7 and aims to use its home support in the second leg at the Arena das Dunas.

The referee crew from Pará, led by Wanbelton Lisboa Valente, will oversee the contest. Both clubs view the tie as a decisive step toward their shared goal of reaching Serie C for the 2026 season.
