América Libre Forum honors Miguel Ángel Rodríguez and hosts Felipe Calderón

At the fourth edition of the América Libre Forum, organized by the Organization of Christian Democrats of America (ODCA), former Costa Rican President Miguel Ángel Rodríguez was awarded the 2026 ODCA Human Rights Prize. During his acceptance, Rodríguez emphasized that the award represents Costa Rica’s struggle for liberty and democracy, calling for increased respect and dialogue within public political life.

Former Mexican President Felipe Calderón also participated in the forum. Calderón addressed the current political landscape in Mexico, expressing concerns regarding the potential for a “perfect dictatorship” under the current administration. He argued that the ruling party, Morena, is moving toward becoming a hegemonic party through the alleged subjection of electoral authorities, a co-opted court, and a legislative majority.

The forum serves as a gathering for center and center-right political parties and democratic organizations across Latin America.
