América Móvil chairman pledges continued investment in Mexico
Carlos Slim Domit, chairman of América Móvil and Grupo Carso, has reaffirmed the conglomerate's commitment to investing in Mexico. Speaking at the Mexico Siglo XXI event, Domit expressed support for the 'Plan México' initiative led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, which aims to increase public, private, and mixed investment to between 25 and 28 percent of the country's GDP.
Domit highlighted the significant international scale and technological transformation of América Móvil. The company's infrastructure now includes over 1.5 million kilometers of fiber-optic cable and 121,100 cell sites as of the end of 2025. This network spans land via fiber optics and 5G mobile networks, oceans through submarine cables, and space via geostationary satellites.
The business leader emphasized that the group's evolution from the local Telmex to a global telecommunications leader is a result of continuous investment in technology, infrastructure, and innovation. He noted that private investment remains a crucial driver for job creation and socioeconomic development in Mexico.
