Amritsar: GRP officer shot by unidentified assailants

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sukhchain Singh of the Government Railway Police (GRP) was shot and injured in Amritsar, Punjab, while returning home from duty on Sunday evening. The attack occurred near a canal bridge close to Jagdev Khurd village under the Ajnala police station jurisdiction.

Three unidentified assailants on a motorcycle approached Singh, who was traveling on his own motorcycle in plain clothes, and opened fire at close range. A bullet struck Singh’s left shoulder and passed through. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition and out of danger.

Singh suggested the attack might be linked to an old family feud, noting that his brother had previously been murdered and a related court case is in its final stages. Police have registered an FIR and are investigating all possible motives.

Following the incident, BJP MP Ravneet Singh Bittu condemned the attack, questioning the Bhagwant Mann government regarding the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab and the safety of police personnel.
