Amritsar Police arrest two over pro-Khalistan slogans

Amritsar Police have arrested two individuals, identified as Arshdeep and Manoj, for allegedly promoting pro-Khalistan slogans and writing ‘Referendum 2020’ at Hall Road and Bhandari Bridge in Punjab.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Jaskaran Singh Teja stated that the arrests were made within five hours of the incident. Police recovered mobile phones from the suspects which allegedly contain evidence. The investigation has named three other individuals, including two US-based persons. One of these individuals is reportedly associated with Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the chief of the banned organization Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), who was designated a terrorist by the Indian Union Home Ministry in 2020.

Authorities allege that Arshdeep used Snapchat to contact a US-based individual, who then connected him with Pannun. Police claim the suspects were motivated by promises of money and opportunities to move abroad.
