Amrize and Concrete Strategies validate Type IL cement for industrial use

Amrize and Concrete Strategies have completed full-scale field trials as part of a major industry study regarding portland-limestone cement (PLC, Type IL) systems. The research, released by the ACI Foundation, American Cement Association (ACA), and the Concrete Advancement Foundation (CAF), evaluated the abrasion resistance and carbonation performance of Type IL concrete for industrial floor applications.

Led by Principal Investigator Mehdi Khanzadeh Moradllo of Temple University, the study compared traditional Type I/II concrete with lower-carbon Type IL systems through both laboratory testing and field trials. The findings indicate that properly proportioned, placed, and finished Type IL concrete performs comparably to conventional concrete in terms of abrasion resistance. This validation supports the use of Type IL in demanding facilities such as warehouses, data centers, and distribution centers while reducing embodied carbon.
