Amroha court sentences man to life imprisonment for minor's rape

A special court in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the rape of a minor. The verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Hemlata Tyagi, presiding over the court for sexual offenses against children (POCSO Act).

In addition to the life sentence, the court imposed a fine of 50,000 rupees on the convict, ordering that 90 percent of the fine amount be awarded to the victim. The legal proceedings moved swiftly, with the court delivering its decision within eight months of the trial's commencement. The case was registered following a complaint from the victim's father, and the police filed a charge sheet within 18 days of the initial report.
