Amsterdam and Almelo apartment fires cause evacuations and damage

Major residential fires in the Netherlands caused significant damage and evacuations on Sunday, September 27.

In Amsterdam Nieuw-West, a large fire broke out in an apartment complex on Nicolaas Ruychaverstraat. The blaze caused heavy smoke and required the evacuation of several residents. Emergency services had to force doors and break windows to combat the flames.

In Almelo, a fire at the Zeven Bosjes residence, which reportedly started on a first-floor balcony, left twelve homes uninhabitable. Two residents were present during the fire, and one was taken to the hospital for observation. A cat in a neighboring property also died in the incident. Housing corporations and Salvage Foundation are assisting displaced residents.
