Amsterdam court acquits suspect in bank helpdesk fraud sting

The Amsterdam District Court has acquitted a 20-year-old man suspected of bank helpdesk fraud following a police sting operation. The case centered on an undercover agent from the Police Team Secret Operations who acted as a victim to catch fraudsters in the act.

During the operation, an individual posing as a bank employee contacted the undercover agent, claiming the agent had been a victim of phishing. The perpetrator attempted to gain access to the agent's personal and banking details and instructed the agent to hand over valuables and login credentials in an envelope to a designated security worker.

The court ruled that because the undercover agent was aware of the scheme and was actively participating in the sting, the legal requirements for a fraud conviction were not met.
