Corné H. receives one‑year conditional sentence for Vught prison staff hostage
The court in ’s‑Hertogenbosch sentenced 30‑year‑old Corné H. to a one‑year conditional prison term for the December 5, 2025 hostage incident at the Vught penitentiary. During the episode he threatened staff with a blade, bound two employees with a table leg and held eight staff members at gunpoint, causing “death‑like terror.” The prosecution had sought a custodial sentence, but the judges ruled that continued treatment in a high‑security TBS clinic was the safest option and that a conditional sentence would provide a “stimulus” for his reintegration. Corné H. had previously been convicted for a café hostage in Ede, receiving nine months’ imprisonment and a TBS measure. He remains in a TBS clinic in Groningen, where his psychiatric disorders are being treated. Victims expressed ongoing trauma from the hours‑long ordeal.
