Amsterdam police arrest suspect in Hajar murder investigation

A 23-year-old Somali national has been arrested in connection with the death of 29-year-old Hajar in Amsterdam. The suspect was apprehended in the municipality of Koggenland following a violent incident at a residence where a man, reportedly the suspect's foster father, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Hajar had been missing since October 4, when she was last seen near the RAI complex in Amsterdam. Her body was discovered on October 16 inside a suitcase in the water near Amsteldijk. Police have confirmed that her death was the result of a crime.

The suspect, who has resided in the Netherlands since 2009 and holds a permanent residence permit, was initially questioned as a witness after being seen on camera with the victim. However, subsequent investigations led authorities to designate him as a suspect. The victim's family expressed relief at the arrest while remaining in deep mourning.
