AMT workers in Genoa to hold eight-hour strike on September 4
The CUB Trasporti union has announced an eight-hour strike involving AMT workers in Genoa, scheduled for Friday, September 4, 2026. This marks the second industrial action following a previous strike on July 27.
The protest is directed against AMT’s recovery plan, which union members claim will lead to service cuts, longer travel times, reduced vehicle maintenance, staff reductions, and worsened shifts. Workers also expressed concerns regarding the potential privatization of the sector, suggesting that debt repayment through shares could lead to international bidding for services in the future.
During the strike, urban transport services will see work stoppages for shift workers between 9:30 and 17:00, while intermediate shift workers, including ticket offices and customer service, will abstain for their entire shifts. Provincial services will face similar disruptions, with ticket offices affected from 9:00 to 16:30. For the Genoa Casella railway, replacement buses will be used. Guaranteed services will remain available for passengers with disabilities and the elderly in provincial areas.
