Amtrak invests $8 million in Oklahoma station accessibility
Amtrak has completed $8 million in accessibility upgrades at the Norman and Pauls Valley stations in Oklahoma. These improvements, funded through the ADA Stations Program via the Federal Railroad Administration, aim to bring the facilities into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Norman station received $3 million for renovations, including the installation of a new 300-foot platform. Work involved replacing outdated brickwork with smooth surfaces, creating barrier-free paths to the station building, and adding LED lighting, tactile warning strips, and improved signage. The Pauls Valley station received $5 million for platform expansion and infrastructure updates, including a new 290-foot concrete platform, ADA-compliant ramps, and resurfaced pathways.
Both stations serve the Heartland Flyer line, which operates between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth, Texas. The projects involved collaboration between design firm WSP USA and various local contractors.
