Amtrak Saluki service to use buses during October schedule changes

Amtrak is implementing temporary weekday schedule adjustments for the Saluki service between Carbondale and Chicago from October 5 to October 30. These changes are due to ongoing infrastructure work along the rail corridor.

During this period, certain segments of the route will be replaced by dedicated bus services. For southbound travel from Chicago Union Station, a bus departing at 08:15 will reach Champaign-Urbana around 10:47, where passengers can transfer to bus 3391 to continue toward Carbondale.

For northbound travel, bus 3390 will depart Carbondale at 06:30, making stops at Du Quoin, Centralia, Effingham, and Mattoon before reaching Champaign-Urbana. Passengers will then connect to a train to Chicago, arriving at approximately 14:00. This adjustment increases the total northbound travel time to over seven hours, compared to the usual five and a half hours. Weekend service remains unaffected and will follow the standard schedule.
