The death toll from a massive explosion and fire at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex in Russia's Far East has risen to 15 people. The facility, a $10 billion joint venture between Russia's Sibur and China's Sinopec, was in the final stages of commissioning and had not yet begun full production.

Of the 15 fatalities, 14 are reported to be foreign nationals. The Russian Investigative Committee has launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on potential violations of industrial safety regulations and determining the exact cause of the blast. The explosion reportedly occurred in an auxiliary section of the pyrolysis unit.

In addition to the fatalities, at least 152 people required medical attention, with 39 workers remaining hospitalized. Some of the injured have been airlifted to Moscow for treatment. The complex is designed to be one of the world's largest producers of polyethylene and polypropylene, with an expected annual capacity of 2.3 million metric tons of polyethylene and 400,000 tons of polypropylene.
